All of our construction NVQ courses allow the learner to work towards gaining a CSCS card or skilled worker card. Any NVQ-level construction course shows to any future employer that you have the skills to complete a construction site job at a high standard whilst respecting the health, safety, and welfare of others.
NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is very well favoured within the construction industry as the learner will progress and succeed at a rapid pace.
The possession of a CSCS card (skilled worker card) means you will be able to access construction sites and show your competence in your construction skills. If the business you are working for can show the proof of CSCS cards then it will be more appealing to those wanting to work for them.
As you are taking a construction NVQ, there is no other way to be assessed than practically. You need to be able to practice the relevant skills for your construction course. If you are on a bricklaying course then you need to be able to lay bricks well and if you are on a painting and decorating course, then you need to be able to paint and decorate well. In a construction NVQ, you will be assessed on what you can physically do rather than what you know.
Construction NVQs are designed with the construction site in mind. You will be assessed on-site and the examiner will be judging you based on your physical abilities. They will be asking questions to yourself and others as you are working and they will be looking at the work you are doing at that moment. Once the task is completed, the assessor will then take a look at your finished work and provide guidance accordingly
The short answer is no, you cannot fail a construction NVQ. An NVQ is built differently than your average GCSE or A-level exam. A construction NVQ is based on the learner's ability to complete physical tasks. Within an NVQ there is no deadline, if the person taking the course feels that they are not prepared, then they can delay the assessment. Delaying the assessment means that the learner can be given tips and tricks to then succeed at a later date. Once the learner then succeeds, they will be awarded a CSCS card and be named as a skilled worker in the industry.
