The Results

On completion of the Occupational Health and Safety NVQ, you will be able to apply for a gold ‘skilled worker’ cscs card. The CSCS will ask for proof of your NVQ certificate along with proof of a HS&E supervisors test pass within the last 2 years. The NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety is also equivalent to the NEBOSH Certificate, and as such, allows successful learners to apply for TechIOSH membership.

About This NVQ

The aim of the NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and understanding, as well as being able to demonstrate competence in the workplace when carrying out a Health and Safety role.

Who is the NVQ For?

The NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety has been designed for people who have an element of responsibility for health and safety in their workplace. Typical roles include Team Leader, Supervisor, Safety Representative, Manager, Head of Department or equivalent.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, the qualification will assess a learner’s competence in their current job role. Learners must be aged 16+ and be working in a role that will allow them to demonstrate their competence against the required units, therefore a role that involves aspects of Health and Safety is required.

Delivery

The learner will be assessed using a range of methods tailored to the learners needs. These vary from on-site assessments, observations, written questions, evidence generated from the workplace, professional discussion, and witness testimonials.

Our NVQ Process

Evidence is gathered by means of; videos, photographs, on-site assessments, observations, written questions, workplace documents, professional discussions and witness testimonies. Your assessor will support you throughout the process. Evidence is uploaded and assessed via an E Portfolio whereby you can track your progress throughout.

NVQ Content

Course Content – Mandatory Units:

  • Investigate and evaluate health and safety incidents and complaints in the workplace
  • Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
  • Develop procedures to safely control work operations
  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Promote a culture of health and safety in the workplace
  • Conduct a health and safety risk assessment of the workplace

A minimum of two Optional Units:

  • Make sure actions in the workplace aim to protect the environment
  • Review health and safety procedures in the workplace
  • Supervise the health, safety and welfare of a learner in the workplace
