About This NVQ

The aim of the NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and understanding, as well as being able to demonstrate competence in the workplace when carrying out Plant operations as part of a construction role.

Who is the NVQ For?

The NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations qualification is aimed at candidates who are employed in a construction role and operate plant equipment within that role. It has been developed for completion in a real workplace environment and on completion of the NVQ, you will be able to apply for a blue ‘competent operators’ cpcs or npors card.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, the qualification will assess a learner’s competence in their current job role. Learners must be aged 16+ and be working in a role that will allow them to demonstrate their competence against the required units.

Delivery

Learners will be assessed using a range of methods tailored to the learners needs. These vary from on-site assessments, observations, written questions, evidence generated from the workplace, professional discussions, and witness testimonies.

Our NVQ Process

Evidence is gathered by means of; videos, photographs, on-site assessments, observations, written questions, workplace documents, professional discussions and witness testimonies. Your assessor will support you throughout the process. Evidence is uploaded and assessed via an E Portfolio whereby you can track your progress throughout.

NVQ Content

Typical units within the Plant Operations NVQ include:

Mandatory Units:

  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace

 

Optional Units (These have been taken from the Transporting Loads Pathway and would be relevant to Forward Tipping Dumper and other transporting loads plant equipment):

  • Preparing and operating forward tipping dumpers to receive, transport and discharge materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating rear tipping dump trucks to receive, transport and discharge materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating tractors with towed equipment for non-agricultural activities in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating trailer-mounted concrete pumps to receive, pump and discharge materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating self-propelled bowsers to receive, transport and discharge materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating static concrete placing booms to discharge and place materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating volumetric trucks to receive and transport materials in the workplace
