About This NVQ

The aim of the NVQ Level 2 in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations – Groundworks qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and understanding, as well as being able to demonstrate competence in the workplace when carrying out Construction, Civil Engineering and Ground Works.

Who is the NVQ For?

The NVQ Level 2 in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations – Groundworks qualification is aimed at candidates who are employed in a Groundworker role. It has been developed for completion in a real workplace environment and on completion of the NVQ, you will be able to apply for a blue ‘skilled worker’ cscs card.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, the qualification will assess a learner’s competence in their current job role. Learners must be aged 16+ and be working in a role that will allow them to demonstrate their competence against the required units.

Delivery

Learners will be assessed using a range of methods tailored to the learners needs. These vary from on-site assessments, observations, written questions, evidence generated from the workplace, professional discussions, and witness testimonies.

Our NVQ Process

Evidence is gathered by means of; videos, photographs, on-site assessments, observations, written questions, workplace documents, professional discussions and witness testimonies. Your assessor will support you throughout the process. Evidence is uploaded and assessed via an E Portfolio whereby you can track your progress throughout.

NVQ Content

Typical units within the Construction, Civil Engineering and Groundworker NVQ include:

Mandatory Units:

  • Installing, maintaining and removing work area protection and safety equipment in the workplace
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace

 

Optional Units:

  • Placing and compacting concrete in the workplace
  • Installing drainage in the workplace
  • Preparing, mixing and distributing concrete and mortars in the workplace
  • Reinstating ground condition in the workplace
  • Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms in the workplace
  • Cutting, drilling and shaping construction related materials in the workplace
  • Laying, placing or applying construction related materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and mixing construction related materials in the workplace
  • Installing, maintaining and removing temporary excavation support in the workplace
  • Identifying and marking the location of utilities apparatus and sub-structures in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating forward tipping dumpers to receive, transport and discharge materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating ride-on rollers to compact materials in the workplace
  • Preparing and operating powered units, tools or pedestrian plant, machinery or equipment in the workplace
  • Controlling, directing and guiding the operation of plant or machinery in the workplace
  • Installing, constructing, maintaining, dismantling and removing temporary works in the workplace
  • Locating and excavating to expose buried utility services in the workplace
